Symphonic Wind Ensemble
The Symphonic Wind Ensemble incorporates the finest woodwind, brass and percussion performers on campus. This select ensemble offers one-per-part soloistic playing in a flexible setting, studying and performing literature of the highest musical value with the emphasis on works originally written for band and wind ensemble. High expectations for individual musicianship and advanced technical attainment make membership in the Symphonic Wind Ensemble a rewarding experience. Membership is by invitation of the director after auditions have been completed each semester. Recent guests of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble include Pulitzer Prize winner Karel Husa, conductor Colonel John Bourgeois, and composer Bob Foster. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble has performed at the 2006 meeting of the Southwest College Band Directors Association and has made several appearances at the Missouri Music Educators Association conference.
The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, conducted by Director of Bands Tom O'Neal, performs a minimum of two concerts each semester. Symphonic Wind Ensemble meets from 12:15 pm to 1:45 pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
